Those starting the Paleo Diet might be aware that it is a diet that involves eating more or less the same way as Paleolithic man, and this means cutting out any foods that came about as the result of the agricultural revolution. While there might be a lot that you know about the Paleo diet, however, there are a few facts that might just surprise you about this eating regimen.

Most people have heard of the benefits of foods such as Chia seeds, Quinoa and Amaranth, but according to the Paleo diet these are off limits too. As the advocates of this diet put it, these foodstuffs are actually anti-nutrients and;

Repeated consumption to seed anti-nutrients can undermine the quality of our diets. It may also impair intestinal function, create low-level inflammation and increase our susceptibility to allergies, autoimmune and other inflammatory diseases.

Changing over to the Paleo diet sometimes means relearning everything that you think you know about what is healthy and what is not, which is why it can take some time to adjust to it all.

Paleo Water

When it comes to the Paleo diet, the rules that govern the consumption of these foods actually apply to just about everything, including the water. Bottled water is a big no-no when you start on the Paleo diet because of the plastic that this water is contained in. According to recent research, the effects that bottled water has on the environment is quite large and very negative and so it is best that people stay away from it for all sorts of reasons. As the advocates of the Paleo diet state, plastic wasn’t a part of people’s lives in the Paleolithic era, so people should stay away from it as much as possible.

You Should Be Eating Eggs as Part of a Balanced Diet

Research regarding the consumption of eggs has been pretty varied in recent years. Some professionals state that you should stay away from them, while others say that they are fine as a part of a healthy, balance diet. According to the British Health Foundation;

For most people, the amount of saturated fat they eat has much more of an impact on their cholesterol than eating foods that contain cholesterol, like eggs, liver, kidneys, shellfish. Unless you have been advised otherwise by your doctor or dietician, if you like eggs, they can be included as part of a balanced and varied diet.

The Paleo diet recommends eating eggs because they are a great source of protein, and because they don’t necessarily contribute to a rise in cholesterol, people don’t have to worry about consuming them regularly.

Take a Break Every Now And Again

Rigidly following the Paleo diet might provide you with a range of health benefits, but if you need to break it every now and again, don’t be so hard on yourself. Experts from the Paleo Plan state that;

For everyone else who’s trying to live a long, healthy life and have fun while doing it, give yourself a break sometimes and eat what feeds your soul.

Your body might have an adverse reaction to processed foods once you have completely eliminated them from your diet, but this might only serve as a reminder of why you are following the diet in the first place.

Even scientists are not yet completely sure what Paleolithic man consumed and how they behaved back in the day, so you might learn a lot more about this diet as you go about entering into this realm and altering your diet as necessary.
